Determination of mirror surface accuracy

The surface accuracy of Quasi-Optical mirrors is important and for many applications, including for Space Qualified parts, must be proved. We prove accuracy by probing the surface on a matrix (usually 6mm in pitch) and comparing the measured values with calculated ones in a MATHEMATICA program, to compute the RMS deviation Here a mirror is showing just over 3u RMS error and the distribution can be seen:
